Created before life began on our planet, diamonds have always been associated with mystery, myth and magic.

Each diamond was formed billions of years ago and has travelled a long and arduous journey from deep within the Earth.   And while most of a diamonds’ qualities are defined by nature, it takes a master craftsman to unlock the diamond’s true brilliance, fire and beauty.

Refers to the overall tint of the diamond or the amount of colour that it contains.

Diamonds are graded on a colour scale which ranges from a D which is colourless to Z which is visibly yellowish.

The majority of natural diamonds are “white”. But most of them have a slightly yellowish tinge. The most valuable ones are the colourless or near colourless ones. The rest are graded according to the extent of their “yellowishness”.

Barring a few rare and very exceptional natural fancy coloured diamonds, a completely colourless diamond which allows white light to pass through it effortlessly - dispersing it again as rainbows of colour and giving it a great sparkle – is the most desirable.

Among the exceptions are some natural fancy coloured diamonds, which include pink, blue, green, purple, orange, red, brown and black.
